Phetotehp is the secret 12th Hell, entirely unknown to any philosopher or explorer of the Labyrinth because those who exist within it (even the fiends) do not understand it to be Hell. Phetotehp is charged with psychic influences so that when you arrive there, you believe the pathway that lead you there has brought you back to where you started (usually, your own home world.) If you step through a portal to Phetotehp, you believe the portal to not be a portal. You perceive Phetotehp as being exactly where you started.
Visitors to Phetotehp may exist there for decades, or even their entire life, but the moment you arrive the world around you begins a painfully slow process of entropy powered by fiendishly negative energy. Relationships go sour, the things you used to enjoy no longer bring you happiness, perfectly functional systems of technology and society start to break down through a process known as “enshitification.”
Your sleep is uneasy, or riddled with nightmares of how much worse things could be so that you awaken each morning with the firm belief that you are lucky that things are going so well in the world. But your days feel shorter than ever, and you always feel you have so much to do and no time in which to do it.
There are almost an endless number of portals out of Phetotehp. Any reflective surface (such as a mirror, or a still lake) is a portal back to the world you left to reach Phetotehp. However, these portals require a key that is the word “phetotehp” backwards, and unsurprisingly there have been no recorded successful attempts to unlock a portal from Phetotehp.
